2010 Olympics

Now I’ve done it.  I signed up as an athlete for the Yarn Harlot’s 2010 Olympic Challenge to knit EZ’s Baby Surprise Jacket.  I want to finish it, blocked all by the final bell.

I have already knit my swatch for it, but I cannot decide which I prefer.   The yarn is Bartlettyarns Sport Weight which I purchased at Maryland Sheep and Wool in 2008! The color is more accurate on the Bartlettyarns website than in my photo below.

The choice I need to make is between single yarn or doubled yarn and either size 3.25 or 4 mm needles.  I am leaning to the 4.00 mm needles with single yarn, but worry that it will be too flimsy for a jacket.  Decisions, decisions.

The challenge is not really in the knitting but in the finishing.  I have a busy two weeks on top of my usual work schedule. For instance, this weekend I have a concert and I will be grading exams and next weekend my knitting guild starts celebrating The Year of the Sock with cuff down socks cast-ons and we are doing Lucy Neatby’s Fiesta Feet as a knitalong;  I am leading both!

I am excited to be  finally knitting the baby surprise jacket; it has been in my Ravelry queue since May 2008, which was just after I bought the yarn.
