Yarn Yarns: Works In Progress

WIP Wednesday

Following the idea I saw at Knitorious, (the original idea came from How the West was Spun), since today is a Wednesday so I am going to talk about my knitting works in progress (WIPs to the uninitiated). It is partly a convenience because last week I sat down to recap what I was knitting.

I have four active WIPs:

Lisa’s Hat – I just need to measure her head so that I do not have to frog it AGAIN.

Lisa's Hat

Freestyle Vest – I need to get brave with this one and draw my template and start joining scrumbles together.

Blue Scrumbles

Jessica and Robert’s Cushion Covers – This has been a learning exercise for me as I had to go back to the beginning of using colors together. I was going to use the Circle of Pursuit design, but it was not working for me:

So I started back at the beginning – knitting swatches with all the different colors in order. Here they are:

Tumbling Block Swatch

Kaffe Fassett is being a influence again as I just purchased both his new book, Kaffe Knits Again (Amazon) and Kaffe’s Classics: 25 Glorious Knits (Amazon) . I am probably going to do a version of his Gridlock cushion, the afghan is on the front of Knits Again. Or not. I need to focus. Following the KF principle that if you aren’t sure of the colors add more, I also ordered more yarn from Knit Picks. I hope that helps. I have ideas, I dreamt an idea a couple of nights ago so I need time to sit and try it out. I also have an idea that probably needs more artistic ability than I have.

Hannah’s Baby Blanket – I have 6 and a half more blocks to go as I am making it 6 blocks by 4 and then I need to add a border especially to the sides.

  3. […] Two weeks ago, I was struggling with this project. My original idea of using Woolly Thoughts’ Curve of Pursuit as a design was not working and I was finding the colors challenging. So I was not making any progress, which I meant I felt guilty as this is a wedding present. An after-the-fact wedding present, but still. A couple of days later, I dreamt a design. I also bought more yarn as I was following Kaffe Fassett’s Principle: “If you are unsure about the colors, add more”. […]
