Nobel Prize for Literature

Wow, they actually chose some one readable. In fact, one of my major influences, along with Margaret Drabble and Nadine Gordimer. Not forgetting Margaret Atwood and Vera Brittain.

Doris Lessing is an old lefty who wrote first about her life growing up in Southern Rhodesia, then about her experiences as a fellow traveler in London in the 1950s. The Golden Notebook is her most famous work and is about the latter. I also really enjoyed Memoirs of a Survivor about societal breakdown and what it was like for some one on the sidelines. I am not a great fan of her science fiction writing.
