High fructose corn syrup has been shown to be as bad for you as sucrose. Oops, so sorry, that should read no worse for you as sucrose (link). If you want to avoided extra sugars, not only should you look in the ingredients for sucrose and HFCS, but also for dextrose, glucose, fructose, honey, apple juice, grape juice, corn syrup etc. Both apple juice and grape juice are about 10% sugar.
As a vegetarian, I like this one, not that it is anything that I didn't know before: Vegan diets are healthier for the planet, people than meat diets (link).
