A few links on some of the food chemistry issues of the week.

Keeping soft drinks at high temperatures increases the rate of benzene formation (link).

High fructose corn syrup has been shown to be as bad for you as sucrose. Oops, so sorry, that should read no worse for you as sucrose (link). If you want to avoided extra sugars, not only should you look in the ingredients for sucrose and HFCS, but also for dextrose, glucose, fructose, honey, apple juice, grape juice, corn syrup etc. Both apple juice and grape juice are about 10% sugar.

As a vegetarian, I like this one, not that it is anything that I didn't know before: Vegan diets are healthier for the planet, people than meat diets (link).

Twinkies and Wonder Bread makers, Interstate Bakers, have been given a new deadline of September 22 2006 to sort out itself from bankruptcy (link). Good I have more time to make Twinkie jokes and comments or let Doonesbury do it for me (link).

  1. I’m truly enjoying the design and layout of your website. It’s a very easy on the eyes which makes it much more pleasant for me to come here and visit more often. Did you hire out a designer to create your theme? Exceptional work!
